Young Advisors

These are young people who have been nominated by community organisations that they are a member of. Anyone who is engaged in whatever way with their local community is eligible to be put forward.

Here are some examples of who they are and them telling you what they have achieved:

Anysha

My name is Anysha, I am 16 years old. I go to Catford High School and have been attending Young Advisers since November 2006. I am honest, bubbly, confident and very outspoken, easy to get along with.

Nathan

Hey guys, I’m Nathan and I’m 18 years old. I’ve been involved with the Young Mayor project since the start, three years ago. Originally, I ran in the first election and didn’t quite make it but found other avenues to get involved in the bigger picture. During my time on board, I’ve met people in power, i.e. Ken Livingstone, Steve Bullock and Simon Hughes MP (Lib Dem). I’ve also had the opportunity to attend conferences around the country and have been privileged to go to Prague and meet Bulgarians on a political exchange.

Luziane

Heya, how you doin’? It’s Luziane, the deputy young mayor. I just wanted to let you know about myself in order to relate to you. I’m 15 and I go to Sydenham School. I’m interested in listening to anything you have to say about anything involving the borough of Lewisham. I’ll keep in touch with you and always up date you about the things I’ve been up to.

See you soon, Luziane

Maddy

I have been a Young Advisor since November last year and I am especially interested in improving disability access and inclusion as well as making Lewisham more environmentally friendly. I go to HAHC and am in year 10, I also swim and luuurve my music.

Dawit

Hi, I’m 17 and I have been involved in the young mayor scheme for over 2 years. I’m interested in providing facilities that could improve the lives of young people in Lewisham. I go to HAHC, year 12 student. I’m a big time man united supporter and love going to parties.

Neneh

Yiya, I'm 15 and I’ve been a young advisor for two years. I represent the Lewisham Young Womens' Project. I attend Sydenham Girls School and I'm in year 11. My favourite proposal was the young mayor's stage as the environment was fun and lively and many young people came and enjoyed it.

Tahnee

I’m 13 and I go to Catford High School. I’ve been a young advisor for about 2 years. I got involved with the advisors from my youth project called Lewisham young women’s resource project. I enjoy being a young advisor, because I have made lots of friends and it has made me develop lots of skills, and I am a very good people person.

Troyangel

Hi, my name is Troyangel. I go to Croydon College . I have been a Young Advisor for 2 years and I represent the Peer Evaluation Group which I got into from being a member of the Young Citizens Panel. When I’m older I would like to be an actress.

I like being a Young Advisor because you meet new people and get to know what is happening in the borough of Lewisham.

Eliot

Hi, my name is Eliot. I’m in year 11 at Sedgehill school. I am a Young Advisor because I ran for Young Mayor in 2006 but mainly because as a teenager in the Lewisham borough I do feel like I am persecuted because of my age. So as a young advisor I feel I can make a difference to the image people have of “youths of today”.

David

Hi, I’m David Scott and am currently 16 years of age. I am a Young Advisor to the Young Mayor of Lewisham and I’m very interested in helping to change Lewisham for us young people. I go to Haberdashers Aske’s Knights Academy and I’m in year eleven. I love playing pub sports such as darts, pool and snooker. I am very optimistic about everything in life and consider all views and feelings about almost anything.

Yasmin

My name is Yasmin Ali. I stood as a candidate in the 2005 Young Mayor of Lewisham elections and achieved the position of 3rd place. I was the only female candidate to be elected into the core advisory group (because I was one of the top 4 candidates in the election results). I later became the Young MP for Lewisham for the UK Youth Parliament.

Over the past two years I have participated in community related projects and events and contributed to decision-making and the empowerment of young people in Lewisham.
